Greenfield has now been certified as a zero waste to landfill company. This is a great achievement in managing the complete elimination of previous waste stream activities.

Since these new practices and process controls have been put in place Greenfield Engineering in partnership with SWM are diverting in excess of: 30 tonnes of mixed waste, 10 tonnes of cardboard and 1 tonne of plastic away from landfill per annum and have achieved a Zero Waste to Landfill status.

The business is now equipped to deliver a stronger environmentally friendly sheet metal service to its customers. Commercially and environmentally the Greenfield management team are ahead of what they set out to achieve by the end of 2020.

A couple of interesting facts are: In 2009, 90% of the country’s waste was going to landfill, this is forecast to drop to just 10% by 2020. A single recycled plastic bottle saves enough energy to run a 100-watt light bulb for 4 hours. It also creates 20% less air pollution and 50% less water pollution than would be created when making a new bottle.

Daniel Green Operations Manager said; “Our ISO 14001 audits over the last few years identified that we had to work towards our general waste being diverted away from landfill. Since our strategic operational objectives in initiating this project with our waste partner SWM, this has helped us achieve a 100% overall environmental compliance in our recent ISO audit. “Congratulations to all the team for achieving this result ahead of our 2020 target.”
