Greenfield Engineering is further strengthening its CNC punching capabilities with the addition of a new Amada ID-TOGU automatic tool-grinding system.

Designed specifically for Amada punching tools, the ID-TOGU automatically retrieves the correct grinding values from the Amada Intelligent Tooling System (AITS). Its integrated ID reader recognizes compatible NEX III punches and dies, identifies their individual characteristics and records them within a central tooling database. The system automatically controls the grinding process, removing only the material required to restore the tool edge. This minimizes thermal stress, helps prevent overheating and extends tool life while maintaining consistent grinding quality. An integrated coolant filtration and dust-collection system further supports process stability. Connected directly to Greenfield’s company network, the ID-TOGU can exchange tooling information with our Amada punching and combination machines. Its touchscreen numerical control also provides straightforward operation without requiring specialist grinding experience.

Richard Green, Director at Greenfield Engineering, said:

“With ten turret punching machines and further combination punch-laser capacity being introduced, effective tooling management is increasingly important. The ID-TOGU will help us maintain consistent tool condition, reduce maintenance time and protect component quality across our expanding punching operation.”

Capable of processing tools from 1.51 mm to 160 mm in diameter, the ID-TOGU will support improved tool availability, longer tooling life and greater consistency across Greenfield’s high-volume sheet metal production. This latest investment forms part of Greenfield Engineering’s continuing programe to strengthen every stage of its manufacturing process through connected technology, greater automation and enhanced quality control
