Inspection Capability with Planar Optical Measurement Investment

By 27 April 2026No Comments

Greenfield Engineering is pleased to announce a significant advancement in its quality assurance capability with the introduction of the Planar P150.35 measurement system, incorporating Surfscan and ACS-P-AOI-P150.35 technologies, alongside its latest investment in InspecVision Planar optical inspection.

This investment forms part of the company’s continued focus on precision, traceability, and digital quality management across its manufacturing operations.

Advanced Optical Measurement Technology

Greenfield Engineering are continuously improving Quality Management to ensure the highest consistency is maintained throughout production. Our latest investment is the InspecVision Planar optic non-contact, 2D optical inspection measurement system.

The Planar metrology solution is an advanced optical scanner designed to measure and perform precise, accurate inspection of both flat and thinner sheet metal components.

The system includes a 2D automatic repositioning upgrade, using intelligent markers to stitch multiple scans together. This enables accurate measurement of components larger than the machine’s table surface.

Advanced optical capability delivers high-precision measurement in the region of 10–50 microns, supporting compliance with the ISO 10360 quality standard. Integrated 2D CAD interactive PolyWorks software verifies components against customer drawings, ensuring full dimensional conformity.

Integrated Inspection: Surfscan and AOI Capability

The addition of Surfscan technology enhances surface inspection capability, allowing detection of subtle defects and inconsistencies not visible through conventional methods.

Complementing this, the ACS-P-AOI-P150.35 automated optical inspection system introduces intelligent, high-speed inspection through advanced imaging and analysis. This delivers:

  1. Automated defect detection
  2. Improved inspection repeatability
  3. Reduced reliance on manual inspection
  4. Consistent quality verification across production batches

Together, these technologies provide a fully integrated inspection solution—combining dimensional measurement, surface analysis, and automated visual inspection.

Planar Quality Advantages

The introduction of Planar technology delivers a number of key benefits:

  1. 2D inspection – Accurate measurement of flat and folded components
  2. Non-contact measurement – Optical scanning eliminates marking on sensitive materials
  3. Automated reporting and analysis – Clear, structured documentation for customer assurance
  4. Calibrated high precision – Reliable inspection of laser-cut, punched, and combination parts

Installation, Calibration and Training

As part of this investment, Greenfield Engineering has implemented the Planar P150.35 system with full Surfscan integration, supported by comprehensive installation, calibration, and training provision.

This includes:

  1. Full system installation and calibration to ensure optimal performance from day one
  2. On-site training for up to three candidates
  3. An initial two-day training programe covering system operation, measurement techniques, and reporting
  4. A follow-up training session to be completed within six months of installation, reinforcing capability and supporting continuous improvement

This structured approach ensures effective adoption of the technology and maximizes long-term value across the business.

Enhancing PPAP and First-Off Inspection

The InspecVision Planar system is now integrated into Greenfield Engineering’s PPAP and first-off inspection processes. By linking directly with CAD models, the system enables precise overlay mapping, visually identifying components that are within or outside tolerance.

This approach removes the reliance on manual inspection, ensuring consistent, repeatable validation before production begins. The result is fully traceable, quality-assured components delivered efficiently to the shop floor.

Delivering Measurable Customer Value

For Greenfield customers, this investment provides:

  1. Greater dimensional accuracy and consistency
  2. Enhanced surface and visual inspection capability
  3. Faster inspection turnaround and reporting
  4. Improved traceability and compliance
  5. Reduced risk of defects progressing into production

Continued Commitment to Quality and Innovation

This latest investment reinforces Greenfield Engineering’s commitment to adopting advanced manufacturing and inspection technologies. By integrating cutting-edge metrology systems with digital quality processes, the company continues to deliver reliable, high-quality, and fully traceable solutions to its customers.
