Improved Forklift And Site Safety With AI Camera Technology

By 17 September 2026No Comments

Greenfield Engineering has further strengthened workplace safety across its manufacturing operations with an investment in five Vision Shield AI camera systems for its fleet of Toyota 02-8FGF30 forklift trucks.

Supplied by SafeOp, the technology uses AI-powered human detection to identify whole or partial pedestrian forms around moving equipment. Unlike systems that rely on wearable tags, bracelets or specialist clothing, Vision Shield AI can recognize pedestrians independently and alert the forklift operator to their presence. Each system incorporates a wide-angle fisheye camera designed to provide extensive coverage behind the vehicle. An in-cab display highlights the location of detected pedestrians, supported by an audible warning to help operators respond quickly to potential hazards.

The cameras feature three customizable warning zones, allowing the size and shape of each risk area to be configured around Greenfield’s working environments. With an IP65-rated design, the systems are suitable for use across both internal and external operational areas.

David Valins, Health & Safety, Environmental and Training Co-Ordinator at Greenfield Engineering, said:

“The introduction of Vision Shield AI across five of our forklift trucks provides operators with an additional layer of support when working around pedestrians. The ability to detect people without relying on wearable devices makes the system particularly practical for our busy manufacturing environments.”

The investment complements Greenfield Engineering’s existing traffic-management measures, operator training and workplace controls. The technology is intended to support driver awareness and does not replace the responsibility of trained and licensed operators or established safe systems of work. By adopting intelligent pedestrian-detection technology, Greenfield Engineering continues to invest in practical safety improvements that help protect employees, visitors and contractors across its sites.

Further information about the technology is available from SafeOp Vision Shield AI.
