Greenfield Engineering has welcomed Aardvark Occupational Health on site to carry out health surveillance for our team. Its dedicated mobile screening unit enables colleagues to attend appointments at the workplace as part of our ongoing commitment to employee health, safety and wellbeing. The programme covers four key areas relevant to our manufacturing environment:
- Audiometry – hearing surveillance
Hearing checks monitor employees’ hearing over time, helping identify changes that may require further investigation. This supports our wider approach to managing workplace noise and the use of hearing protection. - Spirometry – lung function checks
Spirometry assesses lung function and forms part of respiratory health surveillance for relevant workplace exposures. These checks complement the controls used within our manufacturing processes, including extraction systems and respiratory protection where required. - Skin surveillance
Skin checks help identify signs of irritation or other changes that may be associated with workplace contact with substances. They also provide an opportunity to reinforce appropriate skin care, protective measures and the importance of reporting concerns. - Tier 2 HAVS screening
Tier 2 hand-arm vibration syndrome screening uses a questionnaire to review symptoms among employees exposed to vibration from handheld tools. Responses help determine whether further assessment by an occupational health professional is required.
Bringing Occupational Health to the Workplace
Aardvark’s mobile screening unit provides a dedicated space for appointments on site, allowing employees to access occupational health services during the working day while reducing the need to travel to an external clinic. The programme supports ongoing monitoring of our team’s occupational health and helps inform the review of workplace controls. It sits alongside our risk assessments, employee training, equipment maintenance and measures to manage exposure across our operations.
David Valins, responsible for Health, Safety, Environmental and Training at Greenfield Engineering, commented:
“Health surveillance is an important part of how we support our team and monitor the effectiveness of our workplace controls. Having Aardvark Occupational Health on site makes these appointments accessible to our colleagues and provides an opportunity to reinforce the importance of reporting any health concerns early. As the business grows, maintaining this focus on our people remains a priority.”
Supporting Our Team as We Grow
As Greenfield continues to invest in machinery, technology and additional manufacturing space, the health and wellbeing of our workforce remains a priority. Maintaining a consistent approach to health surveillance is an important part of supporting our people as the business develops. Thank you to Aardvark Occupational Health for delivering the on-site programme and to everyone taking part.
